Last Saturday Erik Poppe’s drama A Thousand Times Good Night starring Juliette Binoche took home three Amanda awards including Best Norwegian Film at Norway’s annual film awards ceremony in Haugesund.

A Thousand Times Good Night also won Best Cinematography (John Christian Rosenlund) and Best Music (Armand Amar). The other major Amanda winner was Eskil Vogt’s Blind which grabbed Best Actress (Ellen Dorrit Petersen), Best Director, Best Editing (Jens Christian Fodstad) and Best Sound Design (Gisle Tveito).

Three films took home two statuettes: Hisham Zaman’s Letter to the King for Best Screenplay (Zaman and Mehmet Aktas) and Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Ivan Anderson); Pioneer for Best Actor (Aksel Hennie) and Best scenography/production Design (Karl Júliussen), and Ragnarok Best Visual Effects and Best People’s Amanda.

Last’s year’s top grossing film The Christmas of Solan and Ludvig won Best Children’s Film and Susann Østigaard and Beathe Hofseth’s Light Fly, Fly High Best Documentary.

Nordisk Film & TV Fond was associated to eight Amanda awards for the films A Thousand Times Good Night, Pioneer, Ragnarok and Light Fly, Fly High

The Amanda Awards ceremony was the preamble to the 42nd Norwegian International Film Festival that opened on Sunday with the world premiere of the Norwegian coming of age film Beatles and closed last night with the Cannes competition entry Two Days, One Night.

Among the festival’s winning films are the Swedish/Finnish co-production Raspberry Boat Refugee by Leif Lindblom, handed out the Nordic Film Award and Lasse Halsström’s The Hundred Foot Journey, winner of the Audience Award.
